A: So what have you learnt from the Habakkuk study today?
B: I’ve learnt that the righteous shall live by faith.
A: That’s good, what does it mean for you though?
B: That means I need to live in the hope that God will come to judge the world and vindicate the righteous.
A: Yeah, fair enough, but how does that apply to someone who hasn’t been able to find a job for instance?
B: I reckon God is too big to care about the small things like finding a job, all He cares is that us to live a godly life.
A: Yes it’s true that finding a job is not the most important thing in God’s eyes, but if God care enough to send his Son to die for us, why wouldn’t he care about trivial things?
B: Well, we are called to live by faith right? That means we just need to have faith that we will be saved and thus live our life accordingly. Why should we bother God with asking for a job, a girlfriend and things like that? I mean you can pray about them, but don’t put too much attention on those things, they don’t really matter to God.
A: Ok, but does God still care of that person in his situation? The fact that he doesn’t have a job doesn’t mean that God is not in control of his situation. We have to believe that it’s for our own good, that it’s happening like that. It’s God’s best intention for us and we need to believe that He IS still taking care of us. We have to trust God not only for the big things but also for the trivial things of life as well.
B: It’s hard to say that or to even see that when you couldn’t find a job for a year. If I were that guy, I’ll just ignore that fact and keep on focusing on spiritual things.
A: I agree with that. All I want to say is, your faith shouldn’t be limited to big things ie salvation, but also to small things ie finding a job.
