Capacity Planning

Took a day off from work today, as there are loads of things to be done this week. The important ones will be Capacity Pla
ing assignment and the web development job.
In COMP9334 (Capacity Pla
ing), I learned about few (simplistic) mathematical models that can be used to calcultate the utilisation of a system. Determning what kind of a system you have is the first step, open system and closed system have different assumptions and of course different calculations. The real-world application of this subject would be something like: in the future if I run an ISP business, how do my hardwares should handle the traffics/service demands from users for instance. How can I find the bottlenecks of my system, how can I manage the bottlenecks, what sort of improvement options that I have (limited by budget).
Quite interesting subject, although I have the doubt that this subject will ever be useful in life, as I am not really a network (or server .. oh whatever, can’t find the right term) person.. But who knows.. someone might offer me a network position :>
