Business partners – ppl’s skills and characteristics

If I were to start up my own business, what sort of people that I am looking for to be partners?
a thought on progress nnBeen doing some thinking since last year, some people have asked for consideration for business partnership. At least two times I rejected the offer, the first one is because of the personality issue, the 2nd time is because I think the business model is not mature enough, too much too soon for it.
Reading Kiyosaki’s book quite a while ago, he talked abt how people’s characteristics are similar to the four elements of the world (fire, water, earth and wind?), which is mostly rubbish I think (not a fan of Kiyosaki). But one thing that I agree with is there needs to be a “correct” combination of people to make a business work.
I recalled the time when I worked in WBC, there were few “outstanding” characters in the branch already, and I can see that the subsequent people who were hired, were actually in the calmer/mature side. And it worked well I think.
With the S3Group, again the mix is there, R is strong technically, he’s a passionate programmer. JC is a design person (in charge ot the design), handles all the PR stuffs and the business side. AC, I think it’s more like me, an all rounder, bridging the design and the development. Of course he’s stronger in design, being an art person, I “probably” better in programming, but he’s quite smart.
I also need to know what are my strength and weaknesses, thus finding people who can help me with my weaknesses and I can help with strength. I like to do the thinking business wise. I know I won’t be able to cope with ru
ing the business as the sole “boss”, thus need one or two people in equal position.
So what will the dream team look like? I would probably look for someone who is a self starter, who can fire up everybody, motivate them, give them energy and a healthy dose of optimiscm (was thinking of someone like CL), would have him to do PR stuffs and business side of things. I also want to look for some programmers, ideally they need to love computing (web or whatever), always seek to learn and share the knowledge with the team. They need to be dependable and committed. Need some designers as well, not sure what to look for, maybe ppl who are not “purely” arty, they tend to be a bit weird and eccentric (and moody?). Having a bit knowledge of programming will be helpful I suppose.
Definitely not hired:n- Problem with punctuality, I can’t stand it, shows lack of committment, bringing the team morale down. n- Leaving things at the last minute. I am a such person myself, no need additional people to make it a work culture. n- Talks more than doing. n- Having a too laid back personality. I am a laid back person, but when it comes to work, i can be quite intense.
