We went to St Andrews Cathedral Christmas Eve service. Phillip Jensen talked about grace as the center of Christmas. In his talk he quoted (I think) William Wilberforce:
You are not being generous until your generosity damages your luxurious lifestyle.
I couldn’t find the exact quote or confirm that it is indeed Wilberforce’s from the net, so leave a comment if you know this.
It was a profound statement nonetheless.
Found this post on my draft folder from 2007 I think.
I have “A Practical View of Christianity” by Wilberforce if you would like to see (read) if he said something along that lines in that book. No index. So can’t search =)
Another thought, have you tried searching if it is quoted anywhere in Beyond Greed also? Sounds like something which might just be quoted in that book?
Thanks Lilis, yeah would like to know exactly who is the person behind the statement. I don’t think I have time to browse through Wilberforce book at the moment though 🙂
I’ll ask someone who has read Beyond Greed.
