One life?

Went to a “wealth” seminar by Roy MacDonald (from One Life) few weeks ago. Of course the seminar didn’t really give us anything solid, the only solid thing is you need to do something to create that million dollar, and we can show you how! Come for a week away at Hunter Valley for just $6000 per person + 12 meetings in 12 months FREE!
Ling is very interested and we are going to meet Richard, one of the consultants this weekend. She needs a platform to start off her own business.
I am not feeling comfortable about this. I mean I do want to start up my own business and all that, but at what cost? The website looks dodgy, Roy was a pleasant person tho, $6000 is DEFINETELY DODGY!

Rent vs buy

When would rent be better than buying a property? Currently paying abt $13,000 in rent p/a, do I get anything in return, well I get a shelter for one year. If that amount of money can be used for mortgage repayment, at least I’ll get more than a shelter.
The ugly side of the mortgage that I have seen apparent among my workmates is they work SO HARD to pay it off, usually it will mean that the wife will also have to work. I don’t want to live that kind of life, where I have to work two jobs and Lina has to work as well (and putting our kids on childcare).
It is my aim then to own a two bedroom unit in eastern suburb close to church and UNSW, with the repayment that will not kill us even with only me working. In order for it to happen, a substantial downpayment is needed and of course a good job for me would help too. Will my dream come true next year? Not sure. It doesnt look that hard to own a 2 bedroom unit around here for us, but maybe I just oversimplify things.

Australia Shares Return Forecast

BT predicted that next year Australian shares will no longer be perforrming like they have for the past few years, this is due to: 1. the extended growing phase 2. the increase in oil price. 10% return is expected for next year compared to this year’s 30%.
