Employed by Westaff to work for HPA in Matraville starting last Wednesday (4/08/2004). The job is quite good because the work itself is really easy, I was able to know 90% of the process in only being a week there.
The pay is also not bad for the position, I am actually get paid more than the bank, but of course this is because the position is casual, thus I don’t get the benefits like sick leaves, a
ual leave like I used to have with Westpac. The downside of this position is: the start time, it starts at 7am!! Such an ungodly hour to start work, to make the matter worse, there’s only 1 bus that goes from my suburb to there. There’s only a 391 bus that I have to catch at 6:42 everyday in order to arrive there by 7. Another downside that I can think of is, because the job is very easy, I might be bore to death in few months time, but I thank God really for this, as it is the perfect job for the situation (studying and looking for an IT position). It only took me 2 unemployed weeks to get this position, call that amazing grace I reckon..
I want to do a black-box analysis of this job that i am doing, what I do is basically archiving bill payments. I will do this later when I have time. As I always said “time is never on my side”.
Data Warehousing Consultant
I am applying for a data warehousing consultant position with Altis, I am quite intriqued with the possibility of being an IT consultant, in data warehousing area as well!! Must be a really interesting position..
I will start reading articles about data warehousing, the XML database subject that I take is somehow inline with this anyway. I also have started to look for data warehousing companies in Sydney, I want to cold contact them.
XML, an Introduction
I am attempting to discover the reasonings behind XML from various resources that are available online.
When talking about XML, we need to understand what semi-structure data is. The rising usage of internet means there is also a need to represent the data from the web in a standard that is agreed upon. The example of rigid data or highly structured data is: data stored in relational databases, the data has a certain attributes and conforms to some set or rules. Se,i structured data falls somewhere between raw data (un-structured) and the highly structured data.
Reflection on Session 2 Uni
It is week 3 now. I am currently doing 3 subjects for this semester they are:
- COMP9314: Next Generations Database System
- COMP9334: Capacity Planning
- COMPI9031: Internet Programming
I am most likely to drop one subject due to time and energy constraints(currently working and trying to minister to people). I am thinking to drop COMP9031 beacuse of some factors including this: the lecturer himself said that he’s trying to figure out what internet programming is really is.
I am really excited about COMP9314 though. Raymond is definetely very passionate about this subject.
The subject will mainly be focused on XML technology and XML based databases. Raymond has certainly improved his teaching skill, I remember that I used to dislike him in COMP9316. He still unpopular tho, my friend told me that when Ray taught COMP3311, he taught them concurrency in database, locking systems, which are really the hardcore stuff of database implementation (that is if you are interested in CREATING a database system instead of USING one), he taught me those stuffs in COMP9316.. hm so are the students getting more and more clever? I want to concentrate in this subject alone because I think I bought Ray’s propaganda that XML database is the next revolutionary thing after the relational database.
He told us that people who understand XML well will be paid highly easily and won’t be hard to find jobs, in fact he promised the star performers in our class, that if we get high mark for this subject he would pass our details to the companies that are looking for XML professionals. ANyway.. I am so very sleepy now, tomorrow have to wake up early for work, yes I do really like this subject but I gues I have to save it for other time.
Words of no importance #2
“They are here! They are here, the planes have come” I heard people shouting on the street. So the planes that will take christians away from the world have finally arrived. The world’s sin has reached its maturity, the promised destruction of the world has finally come. Me and my family have packed up lightly for this occasion, we looked at the precious and expensive things that we will leave behind, we smiled to each other, I said “it’s so worth it, leaving them here, we’re heading somewhere far more better”.
I managed to find a nearby plane, there were a lot people waiting to go inside the plane. When I got into the plane, the stewardess asked who I am then I told her my name. She skimmed through this passengers list and she told me that I am not there.. Franticaly, I argued that it couldn’t be, my name must be there, I am a christian. She had a look again, and she found my name there. I felt relieved, I was really surprised to see that inside the plane, it’s only less than half full. But I saw my sister there, I was really happy.
The plane was ready to take off, I felt excited to finally see what the place that I have been longing for my whole life. The plane was passing the streets of this world to prepare its take off, I saw through the window the crumbling empires that people have built, there was a thin layer of smoke in the air. I saw people outside the plane, they all wore sad expression, they looked on us inside intently, maybe they bid us farewell. And some of them looked at each other, they spoke these silence words “It’s true, there is a god”. I heard one guy actually shouted “Oh well, too bad, I took the wrong choice in my life and I have to bear the consequences, good on you christians”, I can see and feel his dissapointment. I was deeply saddened by this, the mood was really gloomy, did it ever occur to him to repent knowing that there is god and he’s coming to destroy everything? I said to myself “If I were given another chance to be back living in this world, I would work eagerly for the eternal riches”.
