Counterfeit Cheques

Hm, today wasn’t as bad as yesterday, very busy, but all of the transactions were straight forward ones..

Someone tried to cash a counterfeit cheque today, luckily I remembered seeing similar cheque on the team meeting memo. The signatures are exactly the same with the one we have on the file, if I haven’t seen the team meeting memo, I would’ve cashed it for the crook. But honestly, just by looking at the cheque, it’s really dodgy, it doesn’t look like a genuine cheque, it looks like they printed it themselves, but having said that, there are companies that print their own cheques and they are legitimate. Anyways, so I told my team leader about it, she asked me to grab the person’s ID and call the owner of the cheque to confirm. I did manage to grab his passport (which is most probably a counterfeit too) and when I tried to ring the owner, he just left. So there you go.

This is the second time I was presented with counterfeit cheque, about two months ago a stolen cheque was presented to me. This one is harder to detect as it’s the real cheque that supposedly going to someone’s account (the payee), but they somehow changed the payee’s name into “cash” thus making it a cash cheque. Because the amount was significant, i tried to ring the owner of the cheque and just like crooks do, he left while i am doing so.

Both times, the presenters of the cheque were very well mannered, well dressed and well groomed, so dont judge a book by its cover. I guess one of the good thing working with the bank is, you get to see the real criminals out there. *sigh* I agree with my trainee’s opinion, bank should do away with cheques, frauds involving cheques are just too many and too easy to happen. Three times this happened in our branch, the crooks got away without being arrested, although we managed to get their pictures, nonetheless they are free out there, tomorrow they’ll go to other branches and try to do the same thing..

It’s going to be a long day..

It’s 30th June, it’s the end of Financial Year, I was told that today will be one of the busiest day for the bank, as businesses will try to cramp their last transactions today. Indeed starting from last week, bank has been ridicolously busy, yesterday, we were still serving customers 15 mins after the closing hour..

Don’t feel like coming to work, after all I wont be working much longer there and 80 dollar is not worth yesterday’s stress, I tend to lose my temper under pressure. But feel pity for my friends tho, who have to face endless line of people and there is bound to be some cranky customers today.. sigh.. pray for the strength to get through today.

Friendster Frenzy

I was a bit sceptic about Friendster, I thought it’s for the thing that “young” people use to find friends and “potential” partners.. But my two long lost friends found me through Friendster, I am really glad to be in touch with them again and hearing their interesting life. One of them is married to my best friend, who is doing PhD in Brisbane, the other one is studying in Holland and going to Israel for a uni project in two weeks time.. Can’t wait to find or to be found by old friends..
